MO,12/2/2018, KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman would lead a delegation to the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition against ISIS/Da’esh in Kuwait tomorrow. The Global Coalition against ISIS/Da’esh was formed in September 2014 based on the global concern over the Islamic State (IS) group and the threat it poses to international peace and security.

The meeting in Kuwait would be the fourth edition involving all 74 partners, illustrating the global coalition’s unequivocal commitment to tackling IS on all fronts as well as to dismantling its networks and countering its worldwide ambitions. In a statement issued today, the ministry said the meeting – which would be hosted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, aimed to intensify the campaign to defeat IS.

“It also seeks to outline the way forward for the Global Coalition and its relevance following the liberation of the IS stronghold in Iraq and Syria. “Anifah will speak on the current concerns posed by IS from the national and regional perspectives, as well as the challenges and best practices in countering terrorism and violent extremism.

“He will also advocate Malaysia’s concept of moderation or wasatiyyah, which is fundamentally crucial in the efforts to counter the heinous and abhorrent acts of violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,”the statement read. It said Anifah’s participation in the meeting reaffirms Malaysia’s resolute support of the global coalition’s efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
