Grab expands JustGrab service which combines taxis and cars with upfront fixed fare

MO,10/1/2018, KUCHING: Ride-hailing company, Grab, has announced the expansion of its JustGrab service, which is expected to provide equal opportunity for taxi and commercial car drivers registered with the firm. The JustGrab service, which will combine GrabTaxi and GrabCar vehicles, will be available for commuters in the city starting Jan 15.

Grab Non-Klang Valley (GrabCar and GrabTaxi) head Justin Tiew said JustGrab will assign passengers with the nearest vehicles, either a car or a taxi with an upfront fixed fare. “The expansion of JustGrab to Kuching follows the successful launch of the service in Penang, Langkawi, Melaka, Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu and Klang Valley areas last year.

“Our objective to introduce JustGrab is not only part of our on-going efforts to keep improving our services but most importantly, to support the government’s initiative and provide a level playing field for the taxi and transportation industry in the country. “This also supports the government’s advocacy for more taxi drivers to embrace digital economy by registering with the ride hailing service,” he said in a statement today.

JustGrab, he said, will give passengers access to larger network of vehicles within their vicinity, which translates into shorter waiting time. The service also provides price transparency, in which, passengers will have full knowledge and certainty of the fare since it will be displayed upfront on the booking screen.

“The introduction of the JustGrab service, which complements the existing GrabTaxi and GrabCar services, will also provide commuters with more travel options at a different price points,” he said. The announcement made by Grab came two days after taxi drivers went on a strike in front of the old State Legislative Assembly Complex in Petra Jaya near here on Monday.

More than 200 taxi drivers had signed a petition seeking intervention by the state government to help them deal with losses due to wider acceptance for Uber and Grab.
