No more Facebook for man who uploaded obscene pics of ex-girlfriend


MO,21/2/2018, KOTA KINABALU: A 27-year old accused of uploading obscene pictures of his former girlfriend has been barred from using Facebook pending the disposal of his case. Seevashankar Vikneswaran was ordered to stay off the popular social networking website by Sessions Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad after the he claimed trial to the charge.

He was also ordered to report to the Tambun police station in Perak every month besides being barred from leaving the district without the prior consent of the police chief there until the trial date set for August 1. Seevashankar was accused of uploading obscene pictures of his former girlfriend along with the caption “Eternal love…11 years and counting!” on his Facebook at 11.53am on August 16 last year.

He was accused of committing the offence, under Section 233(1)(a) of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998, at Jalan Bandar Baru Tambun, Bandar Baru Tambun, Ipoh. The offence carries a maximum RM50,000 fine or one year jail or both. According to the charge sheet, Seevashankar had transmitted material which was deemed to be offensive and could cause annoyance to another person by using his Facebook account.

His former girlfriend lodged a report here after realising what he had done. The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Hafizah Zahidah Abdullah while Seevashankar was unrepresented. He was later released on RM5,000 bail.
